Bačvice is the most popular beach in Split. It is the closest beach to the city center, it only takes 15-minute walk from Diocletian’s Palace.

Quite rare for this part of Dalmatia, it is a sandy beach with quite shallow waters, which spurred the outbreak of Split’s very own sport, Picigin. Picigin is an amateur sport played in the shallow waters of Bačvice played in way players passing a small ball to one another, keeping it from touching the water.

Bačvice beach is a great spot for kids to make sandcastles while you soak up some sun on a rented lounge bed. Right next to the beach, there is coffee bar named Žbirac café, the meeting point of locals who gather for a chat while gancing the tanners below. If sand it not your thing, there is a concrete dock on other side of the bay, or a pine-dotted grassy area above it.

Bačvice is awarded with a blue flag, it is equipped with showers, changing rooms, toiletes, several cafés, fast-food joints, clubs, restaurants, and sumptuous ice-cream stalls infront of the Bačvice complex. Bačvice is one-stop-shop for beach goers of all ages, whether it is for families or young party seekers.

For a little action in the water, in summer a waterpark is installed with floating trampolines and slides for the young ones.

By heading further east you will see Ovčice bay, a small beach which isn’s sandy like Bačvice, but pebble one. The next bay of Firule beach; this one is sandy so it’s suitable for whole family, especially for children. By walking a little further east, you will get to marina Zenta.
